The prevalence of viral-related upper respiratory tract infections in Turkey was studied during January 2004. Twenty-two out-patients with upper respiratory tract symptoms were included. Viruses were isolated from 9 (40.9%) patients; the isolates included respiratory syncytial virus (18%), adenovirus (13.6%), influenza A virus (4.5%) and influenza B virus (4.5%). The antigenic determinant of the influenza virus isolated was similar to the vaccine strain in Turkey; thus, vaccination against influenza virus is recommended.
