The current article overviews the latest research on bacterial concrete (BC), a promising new material. This article encompasses various topics, such as investigating bacterial kinetics, the interfacial transition zone, mechanical strength properties, gene expression programming, and bacterial self-healing of concrete and assessing durability.Bacterial concrete incorporates various types of bacteria and exhibits a wide range of compressive strengths (CS), typically from 17 to 82 (MPa). The Gamma Probability Plot of tensile strength demonstrates a shape parameter of 41.68033 and a scale parameter of 0.06622. Correlation studies were conducted between compressive strengths (CS) and tensile strength (STS) for Corynebacterium and Bacillus. Compressive strength (CS) values ranged from 55 to 80 MPa, while STS values fell between 1.5 and 4.0 MPa. Flexural strength (FS), Sporosarcina bacteria exhibit the highest value at 8 MPa, while Bacillus alcalophilus demonstrates the lowest at 1 MPa. The precipitation of calcium carbonate enhances concrete by filling its pores, which are small spaces that can weaken the structure and reduce strength. This process improves the concrete's microstructure, increasing strength and durability. Bacterial concrete advances Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by improving construction materials (SDG 9), and enhancing durability for resilient cities (SDG 11), benefiting goals 14, 15, and 6. Overall, it aligns with multiple SDGs for a sustainable and resilient future.
