Background
The limbic system is a complex network integrating cortical, subcortical, and diencephalic structures critical for memory, learning, emotion, and behavior. It comprises key anatomical components (Figure 1-3): Cortical structures: Cingulate gyrus, para-hippocampal gyrus, and entorhinal cortex. Subcortical structures: Hippocampus, amygdala, septal nuclei. Diencephalic structures: Thalamus, hypothalamus, mammillary bodies. Association tracts: Fornix, cingulum bundle, stria terminalis, uncinate fasciculus.
