AB - Archaeological sites carry fragile heritage elements such as earthen materials, mosaics and murals that require protection against environmental conditions. This study centers its attention to the protective shelters designed to safeguard these important elements of culture. The aim of this study is to examine whether protective shelters are effective or not. For this, previous studies on protective shelters on archaeological sites were reviewed using databases of Scopus and Web of Science. The categories involved ※Environmental Control§, ※Shelter Design§, and ※Shelter Performance Evaluation§. Data extraction involved screening and organizing the findings. According to the results, while shelters provide essential protection, moisture management and long-term monitoring remain as important challenges. Practical recommendations for improving shelter design are including better moisture management, passive environmental control, and modular designs according to specific site conditions. Future research should address gaps in long-term monitoring and site-specific adaptation.
